Mission: to improve patients’ quality of life
Since its foundation, the Italian Institute of Telemedicine promotes reaserches, studies, events and campaigns. It is also responsible for promoting and supporting the development of innovative technologies to improve the quality of life of people with chronic diseases.
The institution has contributed to the design and development of various telemedicine systems, the most relevant and used being Tholomeus®.
THOLOMEUS®
THOLOMEUS® is a web-based telemedicine platform linked to various medical devices such as blood pressure monitors, electrocardiographs, spirometers, pulse oximeters, cardiorespiratory polysomnograps, devices for laboratory analysis. The data, collected at the patient’s or healthcare professional’s site, are forwarded to a webserver through a software running on a local PC, a smartphone or a tablet. The data are automatically analyzed by the software, the report is reviewed and signed by a doctor and the result of the test is made available to the patient or other healthcare professional (e.g.pharmacist). THOLOMEUS® is used for the management of the most common chronic cardiovascular, pneumological and metabolic diseases.

The institution also promoted with its partners education of the public and health professionals, and public awareness campaigns on health issues and clinical observational studies, including the registries.
TEMPLAR

The TEMPLAR (TEleMonitoring of blood Pressure in Local phARmacies) Project is the first Italian Registry on blood pressure monitoring in Pharmacy, with the aim of verifying the level of blood pressure control in patients undergoing 24-hour or home blood pressure monitoring through Pharmacies empowered to this service.
WASOTENS Registry

The International Registry for Ambulatory Blood Pressure and Arterial Stiffness Telemonitoring, also called VASOTENS (Vascular health ASsessment Of The hypertENSive patients) Registry, has been devised in order to collect evidence on the clinical value of ambulatory arterial stiffness estimation. The final goal of the project is to achieve a possibly standardized and widespread use of integrated ambulatory blood pressure and arterial stiffness evaluation in the clinical management of hypertension, also by providing specific instructions and recommendations to the clinicians on the use of this modern technology. The project is an investigator initiated observational, prospective trial.
